Anthony Renna Bio

Anthony Renna has been a personal trainer since 2004, first working with Equinox, then on his own at different facilities before opening his own gym, Five Iron Fitness, in 2008. He sold Five Iron in 2016 so he could focus on his true passion of providing educational resources for fitness professionals to excel in the profession. His mission is to help them find success and make an impact in the world by sharing all he has learned from the best of the best.

As the founder and host of both the Strength Coach Podcast and Strength Coach TV, he has interviewed hundreds of strength coaches, fitness professionals, physical therapists and gym owners. He applies what he learned by helping fitness professionals in his personal coaching and accountability group.

Anthony still trains clients a few hours a week and is a partner with Michael Boyle in StrengthCoach.com and BodyByBoyleOnline.com

His new book Be Like the Best: A Guide to Reaching the Top in the Fitness Profession is out October 18.  www.BeLiketheBest.com

This is from my About page and might give you some more insight:

I am a trainer and fitness education content provider who has been in the fitness industry for the last 15 years.

My early success as a trainer at Equinox Fitness Clubs fueled the creation of my own business, Five Iron Fitness.  It eventually led me to open one of the country’s first facilities dedicated to golf fitness in 2008 in White Plains, NY.

During that time, I consumed everything I could in the form of books and DVDs related to the fitness business, and constantly attended workshops and seminars.  I went to everything from small workshops at Equinox to Perform Better Summits to certifications like Strongfirst, RKC, Functional Range Conditioning, Functional Movement Screen, USA Weightlifting and the Titleist Performance Institute.

It was at those events that I created the strategic alliances with Perform Better, Michael Boyle, StrengthCoach.com, Functional Movement Systems, Results Fitness University, Athletes’ Performance (now EXOS), Titleist Performance Institute, Nike and countless professional and collegiate strength coaches.  I used those alliances to help me create the different educational platforms that make up Continue.

Those include:

  • The Strength Coach Podcast
  • StrengthCoach TV
  • BodyByBoyleOnline.com
  • Stop & Give Me 20 Podcast
  • Tell Me About That Book Podcast
  • StrengthCoach.com
  • My upcoming book (Nov, 2019 release) Be Like the Best: A Guide to Reaching the Top in the Fitness Profession”

I sold the gym in 2016 to focus on the thing that I am most passionate about: helping fitness professionals all over the world of all kinds learn, grow and be more successful.  That’s Continue.

5 Random Things About Me:

  • I worked in Yellowstone for 2 summers in my 20’s.  No, I wasn’t a park ranger.  Jobs included: working the breakfast buffet line at the Old Faithful Inn, busboy at the Old Faithful Inn and bellhop at Grant Village.
  • I caddied in the 100th US Open at Shinnecock in 1995 for a local pro named John Reeves.
  • I was a bicycle messenger in Los Angeles in 1988 (it rained once) and in Portland, OR in 1994 (it rained everyday).  I love to be on the bike.  I have 3 of them now, I’d have more if I had room for them.
  • I was in the bar/restaurant business for 18 years.  In the 90’s, I got a job at my favorite bar in the world, Manny’s Car Wash, New York City’s “Home of the Blues”.  I might still be there if it didn’t close down in 1999.

I am a huge hockey fan.  I had season tickets to the New York Islanders as a kid and saw them win 4 Stanley Cups.  I will go to any game, anywhere, any time.  If I am at a seminar or workshop out of town, the first thing I check is to see if there is a hockey game that night.
